Kara Creek Ranch:
An unforgettable experience!

Find the real cowboy experience in Wyoming

Kara Creek is a real working cattle ranch, rated one of the best in the country. The Ranch is situated in the Black Hill of Wyoming. Fourteen miles from the historic town of Sundance, Wyoming and twenty miles from the majestic Devils Tower National Monument. The headquarters for the ranch lies along the banks of Inyan Kara Creek, a beautiful, clear mountain stream, first discovered by General Custer and his men on a scouting expedition in 1874. There is a wide array of wildlife living along the creeks, meadows and tree covered hills in the surrounding countryside.

Our family, the Snooks, are 4th and 5th generation cowboys, dating back to the 1880's of Wyoming and Montana. Experienced rider are at intervals throughout the year welcome to take part in our ranch life. Depending on weather and season there's plenty to be done with over 3,500 head of cattle on more than 30,000 acres of land: Living the cowboy life will include roundups, brandings, trail drives, riding fences, and overnight campouts. May and June more specifically is the spring roundup and branding season, a very busy time getting the cattle out on the summer range. The weather and landscape is absolutely beautiful this time of year. Late August to the end of October involve the fall roundup, and shipping of cattle to market, plus trail drives to take some of the cattle back to the winter range, also a very spectacular time of year with all the trees changing colour. The days are warm and the evening are cool. While you ride you'll be captivated by the wide expanse and beauty of the surrounding country. After a long day in the saddle you have the chance to sit around the campfire and enjoy the spectacular sunsets and the romantic cowboy way of life.
Of course we will be going to local rodeos, shopping trips, and sightseeing (historic town of Deadwood, Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse) on days off from cowboying.
Our ranchhouse offers five cosy guest rooms, four bathrooms, laundry facilities, a big dining room and the living room with a fireplace. For hungry cowboys there's plenty of good hearty home cooked food to be had. Thanks to our friendly ranch team you'll lose no time getting used to the cowboy way of life: Come as a stranger, go as a friend!
